Grieve not for me, nor mourn the while.

Happier would I be, to see you smile.

Let no tears fall, since I've passed away.

...But miss me, and remember me each day.

Live your lives, as I'd want you to, and treat thy fellow man, as I would do.

...And when the time has come, your lives be through.

I'll be waiting here, for each of you.

Mark John Sandquist, Vancouver resident for 61 years, died from complications of brain cancer treatments at Royal Columbian Hospital on 30 December 2008. Mark was born on the 25th of January 1947 in Vancouver B.C. and attended Kitsilano High School where he met Sylvia Ann Buxton.  They were married on the 17th of December 1966 and would go on to raise four children.  Mark retired in 2008 as an electronics salesman from Electro Sonic of Richmond B.C.

Mark is predeceased by his parents Herman and Gladys Sandquist, and he is survived by his four children: Mark Jr. (Kim), Sherilyn (Joe), David (Heidi), and Sandra Lee; along with their Mother, Sylvia, as well as 9 grandchildren; Kaela, Christopher, D'Artagnan, Matt, Luke, Adam, Sonya, Erika & Max.  Mark also leaves behind his brothers Neil and Eric, his niece Lisa-Gayle, her daughter Chelsey, and his niece Sharla.

Mark’s claim to fame was having his picture (of him proudly displaying his 20 pound Thompson River steelhead) grace the cover of the Sportman Motor Inn’s brochure for over 15 years.

Mark was an amateur inventor and loved to tinker with gadgets, but his greatest love (other than family) was the outdoors, and he was an avid camper, boater  and expert fly fisherman.  Mark’s claim to fame was having his picture (of him proudly displaying his 20 pound Thompson River steelhead) grace the cover of the Sportsman Motor Inn’s brochure for over 15 years. However, his crowning glory as a fisherman was his first steelhead caught with a fly, which he caught and released on the Alouette River in Maple Ridge one cold December morning.

Mark especially enjoyed hanging out with his buddies and best friends, John (Eileen), Tom (Lily), Darcy (Judy) and Wayne.  While he was with us, Mark was full of life and laughter, from his attention getting magenta pink, 1971 Ford Boogie Van to his pop-a-wheelies on his children's bicycles.  He was a loving father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by so many.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Western Canada Wilderness Committee (or BC Cancer Agency) in his memory.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Jan. 25 2009 (his 62nd birthday). Please contact the family for details.
